I cannot believe how McAffee actually took over my computer. It was a 3 day nightmare. This crap took so much memory, I couldn't do anything else on my computer.
I dumped it and went back to another free anti-virus software that I had (without problems) for about 5 years. (I won't mention the name so people won't think I'm plugging it).
My computer is about 5 years old, and does not have as much memory as the newer ones...But, I'm just a casual internet user (I don't try to make a career out of it) - So, my needs are not that great.
But, it was ridiculous with the memory demand of McAffee...
It's always been a toss up whether Norton or McCrappy was worse but now that Norton's actually trying to improve, McCrappy is the undisputed winner of the Worst Software Ever award.

IMO Norton 2009 Internet Security is not a bad product since it still gives controls on what to scan for. Norton 360 is the one stay away from since it wants to control everything. McAfee has the same issues with controls. Basically stay away from AIO plus extras (and online versions such as comcast,AOL) in each and you'll be fine.

McAffee/Norton and all those "big box" antivirus solutions are junk.
Try Eset NOD32... weird name, but it's a great third party anti-virus/anti spyware app and uses minimal memory. You won't even notice it's on your computer.
I can't stand Norton or McAfee. I've tried them each, and had nothing but headaches with them. The only thing I like about McAfee is the shredder that comes with its utilities packages.

Kaspersky is the best. The others don't even come close.
