I recently heard about the new MSE anti-virus application. It's apparently a OneCare hybrid. Did anyone here get to download the beta version before registration closed? If so, what do you think about it so far? I missed it.

I would most likely steer clear of the MS version. Why entrust the security of your pc to the people that messed it up and made such things possible to begin with?

Do you mean Bitdefender? If so, you are probably violating the TOS. No commercial advertising.

I have Windows 7 -- 64 bit and have a problem with Microsoft Security Essentials.

I'll load it and when done the green icon is there showing I'm protected. About two weeks later the orange icon starts appearing telling me I'm potentially unprotected. The only way I can fix that is to run a scan or reinstall it. It happens time and again.

Anyone know why? Thanks.

Why would you reinstall it if all that's needed is to run a scan? Why not just let it run the scan that it wants to run? And that behavior is normal, so no you don't actually have a problem, I believe it does that because it hasn't been able to run a scheduled scan for some time, possible because the computer was turned off.

I just changed the scan time to when my computer is more often on than off. I'll see if that works. Thanks.

I suspect that'll take care of it. Mine does the same thing but I never remember to change the scan schedule
