Hi, I'm new to the site, but wondered if anyone has suggestions about why my computer will not download a "borrowed" CD software program. Will not play CD's anymore and will not play movies on Windows Media anymore. Is it a drive that is damaged or just what can I do? Any help would be appreciated.

PS - I did do a search to check for this problem, but if I missed it can someone direct me to it?

Are you saying that you can't install anything from CD or view any movies on CD? Does the CD drive show up in "My Computer"

That's correct, I can't download/install from a CD or play a movie through Windows Media Plyayer. I get the following error code with that: Error ID = 0xC00D1197, Condition ID = 0x00000000. I'm thinking something must be wrong with my installer or drivers, neither of which I'm familiar with to try to fix. I see my icon for the DVD/CD-RW Drive (E) in My Computer. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can't afford a new computer. Oh one more thing, I do get a light that lights up in drive area that indicates (to me) that it is trying to do something. Thanks

If you put an installation disk in the drive, then go to my computer, right click the CD drive and select explore, can you view the contents of the disk?

Yes, NHDave I can't install/download anything. I also can't view any movies on Windows Media player. I get this error code: error id = 0xc00d1197, condition id = 0x00000000. I do see the icon in my computer for the CD. DVD/CD RW Drive (E). Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Also when I put in the CD to download software, I don't get any kind of error message, just a green light (in the drive area) that flashes off and on, like it's trying to do something. Thank you so much.

I know, you said that already. Does the "Yes NHDave" mean that you followed my instructions and you can see the contents of a disk in the drive?
