Has anyone installed Windows Vista and had problems with the sound? My sound worked fine until I installed Windows Vista today. Now if I put the cursor over the sound icon on the lower tray I get the message "No Audio Output Device is Installed".

Any suggestions?
My sound card wasn't supported with Windows Vista, even though the upgrade adviser said it was fine.
And the company that makes my sound card hasn't made any new drivers since SP2 came out.
This is a site dedicated to computer tips etc. I'll bet you can find your answer here. Just enter computer tips in the search top right corner.
Then I entered Vista and there is a whole page of Vista info and tips. They have a new tip everyday just for Vista upgrade issues in a newsletter.
The best thing you can do is check the Vista HAL to make sure your sound card is supported.
And as for your Binary BrianH. It wasn't even a very good joke. If you're going to tell people to use Linux tell them straight out. However it should be REAL versions of Linux like Redhat, SUSE, you know the big commercial kinds.... Not the beginner kinds like Ubuntu and Fedora. I only use Fedora because I had the CDs for it. When I get the money I'll probably get Redhat.
For a reasonably skilled computer user, someone that has installed MS Windows a few times. Ubuntu Linux is pretty easy to install and use. I had a test install looking like Vista, for laughs. Ubuntu seems to support most mainstream hardware. Ive installed it on 2 very new systems and 3 older systems. All work well, no issues that I can perceive. A little reading in support forums can get you rolling and help with problems if you have any. While not for everyone Ubuntu handles 99% of what I used to use windows xp for on a daily basis. I dont have to worry about viruses and malware while I read my web pages.
I had the same problem when I formatted my Dell but it was XP to XP format, not upgrading to Vista. It ended up being that the driver wasn't installed correctly.

Installed on an asus convertable tablet pc and a desktop, no problem. Check vista HAL for compactability.
