wireless n question (laptop, install, work, router)

I am thinking of buying a wireless N router as I need to install in my sister's house so I can surf there or at my mother's house which is nearby. I am getting the N router primarily because the G router currently at my sister's house doesn't have a range far enough to reach my mothers house. A wireless N would be perfect however my laptop has no built in N router, only a/g. My question is would I have to also upgrade my wireless card to N to pickup the signal or would my G card pick up the signal ok?

Wireless n will be backwards compatible with with your wireless g card.

The G card will work but I don't believe you'll get any of the supposed extended range of N.

I haven't been impressed with what I've seen of N so far. The range still sucks even when using an access point and adapter from the same manufacturer and series.

You still have 'g' on the laptop end, with all the limitations of the 'g' standard. I suspect you will gain nothing over current 'g' router.
