I'm REALLY disappointed in my HP. I had 3 before this one, and they were all great (I'm not into heavy gaming/video/multimedia). But this one, I'm not has happy. But is could be the Vista that's crappy. Next time, I go with a Dell. Or a Mac.
I bought an HP LCD monitor last year and I'm very happy with it. I was somewhat reluctant to purchase it because of HP's declining reputation but it had everything I was looking for at a great price. Also, the best price was with TigerDirect and I had hear bad things about them.
Everything went fine and the monitor is great. HP's had the best adjustment in terms of raising and lowering and swiveling, it can also turn into a vertical monitor.
neither. but if I had to choose, I'd go w/ a Dell desktop. if we were talking about laptops, I may differ, but I never had any issues w/ Dell's desktops
Get the best deal you can find on the equipment you want and buy it. Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony, Toshiba, they all get their parts from the same manufacturers. Look for the best price on an extended warranty.
If you have the confidence, build your own. You won't save any money and the warranties will be on the individual parts, but you'll know it was done right.
Dell.

Makes a hard deal to beat, IMO.
And the machines are good enough, for sure.
And don't overlook IBM/Lenovo. I bought a refurbed Lenovo desktop to use as a backup and it's been such a pleasant little guy I haven't gotten around to rebuilding my big one (needs a new motherboard/chip).
They've got some good deals on refurbs/discontinued, etc. Lenovo Outlet - Home page
What I particularly liked about it was the lack of any junk loaded into the computer. No AOL, no free trials, nothing but WinXP Business and some very useful IBM software.
