that hard? These ads are pretty tame and generally point out flaws in Windows that are typical complaints from Windows users. If anyone is trying too hard, it would be the
I Am A PC ad campaign; which is funny because Macs are PC's and Apple almost single handedly created the PC market back in the day.
Advertising by large companies serves the purpose of simply reminding people that they are still around. Windows users will more than likely remain Windows users and Mac users will more than likely remain Mac users. Besides, Apple is not a threat to MS, and probably never will be. As long as the two remain in business, MS will always have a larger market share world-wide.
A [not-so] funny thing is that MS has a decent-sized department called Mactopia. Mactopia has been around since the 80s and its sole purpose of existence is to develop MS products for the Mac platform. MS Office was offered to Apple users two (three?) years before it was available to PC users (although I think that the entire Office suite that was later developed went to PC before it came to Apple...but I could be wrong), for example.
Why would MS [continue to] invest so much time and money developing products for Apple? Because like I said, they are not competitors in the grand scheme of things. They are both software companies when it comes down to it, and Apple's core base of users more than likely will never run Windows as their primary OS, and vice-versa.

But yet you want to use it out of spite?

If you already own a Mac you can upgrade the OS without having to purchase a new computer. If you own a G4, then yes, you would have to purchase a new Mac if you want to use Snow Leopard, but G4's will run any other version of OSX.
Snow Leopard is available for upgrade [from Leopard] for $29. If you are upgrading from an earlier version of OSX, then it is $169.
