I recently bought an HP 2533t without reading the specs because I got a really good deal on it and I wanted to buy it before it was sold out (I bought online). Well, I received the computer, and figured out really quickly that I cannot use it because it has only a 1 GB hard drive and I cannot even install word. I then looked it up and found its for business and not for personal use.
Well, I do like the computer and want to keep it, so I was wondering if it's possible to install a new hard drive. I found that it has a solid state drive. I do not know a lot about computers, so I'm not sure if I could replace that or not and buy a 250 gb or some other size hard drive and install it easily.
I have tried researching online, and I cannot find a definitive answer, so I was wondering if anybody here could help me, and if so, what is a cheap hard drive I could buy so I could use this computer.
Thank you very much.

That is why you need to read the specs before you click the buy button. Bet you won't do that again!

It is a "thin client"

Maybe you can install a new hard drive. Another solid state drive that will cost a small fortune. If you want to buy a 250GB solid state drive for that computer you will likely pay the same price you did for the computer. If you don't read the specifications of your purchases you will probably be better off not opening it and trying to install anything.

Newegg.com - Express Card, Solid State Disk, Solid State Hard Drive

Best thing to do is to buy an external hard drive and use that. It will be slow but they're affordable.

Newegg.com - External Hard Drive, USB Hard Drives, Portable Hard Drive, WD External Hard Drives, Seagate External Hard Drives, Hard Drive

Alternatively, use it as it was designed, and use Google Docs for your documents, or Wordpad which is probably installed with Windows on the system.

Word is a big fat pig, which is why it won't fit on a gig drive. Unless you are truly doing publishing with it, it's probably far more than you need. There are many, dozens, maybe hundreds, of document editors that are much smaller.

If he was using it as designed he'd be rdping into another computer and using word there. With that processor I don't think it would even be a good quasi-netbook. The atom runs circles around it I would think.

to tell you the truth, I got it for such a good price that I knew if I didn't want it I could re-sell it on ebay for a lot more than I paid, thats why I was not that concerned with the specs and I wanted to buy it before it sold out. I guess I'll just sell it on ebay

LOL I just looked it up online. That thing's probably sealed with the flash memory soldered onto the motherboard. Good luck upgrading that. And it has XP embedded. I thought that was for cash registers and other appliances. Will it even run local apps like Word?

It must have fallen off a truck to get such a good price. You could get a full fledged laptop new from Dell for about 500. That thin client looks like it is still selling for 600.
If you want something smaller than a full laptop the Dell Mini 10s run Office 2007 well enough.

I got it for $250. How well would it run with an external hard drive? I have played around with it, and it works well for the internet, I just can't save crap to it. If I bought an external hard drive, would it run ms office and other apps straight from the external hard drive?

You can install apps to the external drive but you have to remember that even though they might be installed to another drive, files still get installed on the C drive because that's where Windows is. That 1GB will fill up pretty quick.
