I could never locate "print in greyscale".

I have HP 1500 All-in-one and the greyscale setting is in Printer Settings under the Color tab.

Our HP printer doesn't let us print at all, even greyscale or B&W, if any one of the cartridges is low. It sucks.

Get a monochrome laser all-in-one. They use toner instead of ink and are a whole lot cheaper to operate. Also use cheaper paper.
This is a nice Brother at New Egg.

There are plenty more. I've been very happy with my Brother Laser Printer.
Laser Printers may cost more to buy, but you'll save over and over again on the ink.
I've given up color printers. If I do need to print something in color, I put it on a USB flash drive and take it to Kinkos.

I'll second the Brother multifunction laser suggestion. Mine uses one of the most inexpensive toner carts available and I use it for 90% of my printing, saving my color laser printer for special stuff. I have a color inkjet, but have been so disgusted with the colors changing and fading that I haven't used it in a couple of years.

I HAD (just dumped it at the electronics recycling center) the HP 7180. I could not find gray-scale. I ended up purchasing a Canon since my husband is going on his 6th year with his and no problems.

I have a Canon PIXMA MP250. The black inkjet ran out and while waiting for the new cartridge to arrive, the color ran out. This all-in-one has a grayscale choicefor printing; but it will NOT print without a new color (I had never used the 'old' color cartridge) - so did you ever find a printer that only prints with black ink???? HELP!!

I'll be the third recommendation for a laser printer. If you want to get your cost per printed page down, it's the cheapest way to go.

I have a color inkjet all in one and a duplexing laser. The laser gets about 98% of our household print jobs.
