I have a presentation to present next week. When I am in powerpoint on my Dell my screen saver shows up real quick. Is there a way I can turn this off so that my powerpoint runs smoothly?

Right click on the desktop, select properties, select screen saver, select none.
Screen savers are not needed on flat panel monitors (including laptops) anyway.

The only reason to use one is privacy and if that's required you want it to return to the log in screen.

Absolutely true. However, I recommend locking the workstation instead. We all know of those rare times that Windows won't wake up from the screen saver, and I consider that an unnecessary risk.

How do you lock the workstation and can I ask another question. I do not know why I am having such a hard time, maybe cause I want this to be a great presentation but now I have lost the sound and the volume control on the bottom right of my laptop wont open

Hit the Windows key and "L" at the same time to lock the workstation.
Right click on a blank area of the taskbar. Unlock if necessary and select properties. On taskbar properties, select customize and add the Volume control back to the list of stuff that gets put down in the corner by the clock.
