It looked to me like gateway laptops are cheaper than others. Is there any reason why so? Your input is really appreciated as am planning to buy one.

I have had a Gateway,PC, for 8 years now, it is set up in my kids room and no problems. I also added extra hard drive and floppy port to it. Hope that helps.

I have a Gateway laptop, and use it everyday for everything from watching BluRay to gaming to graphic designs. They are good priced for the components, and fairly easy to upgrade even parts like CPU/Video. There are pros and cons depending on your needs, but for me the Gateway suits me quite nicely.

Acer bought Gateway a few years ago. Acer specializes in cheap laptops. The prices have been falling ever since Acer bought them.

I had a Gateway laptop that I bought in late December of 2004, with XP Home, it was the GX 7200 model, with the AMD Athelon processor. It worked okay for almost 3 years, then I started having problems with it. The Ethernet port quit working, but it had wireless capability; for a while I could not get on the internet when I traveled, until last year when the hotel I stayed at a lot added wireless connectivity. Then less than 2 years ago, the power button simply came out of its socket, so I had to use a toothpick to power it up. Also, the swivels on the screen that allow you to flip the screen up and down, I started seeing cracks in them about 2 years ago. Overall, the quality on it was poor, so I would never buy a Gateway laptop again.

About two and a half years ago I bought two Gateway laptops, one for me and one for my son going to college. His lasted not quite two years. The fan kept breaking and his laptop would overheat. My fan functions but I can't use the laptop for more than two hours before it gets too hot and the OS starts getting odd. My son gave up and bought himself an MSI laptop he loves.

I used to be a huge Gateway fan, but that was back in the days when they were in South Dakota. Now Gateway is really Acer, and I'm not impressed with the laptops we own. Check the CNET reviews, and check out Costco, they throw an extra years warranty on top of the manufacturers warranty.
