East Hampton located near the Connecticut river, but not on it, and is roughly half way between Marlborough and Middle Haddam (which is on the CT river)
The town is located on one of the largest lakes in the state- Lake Pocotopaug, has an attractive town center centered around High Street and Main street with some shops, a small supermarket and some restuarants. It is located in relatively fast growing Middlesex county.
Population 12,000. The town is about 8-9 miles from Middletown to the west, and 21 miles to Hartford; to the NW.
Welcome to East Hampton Connecticut
The neighboring town of Marlborough is more sought after- however the town is small, in a rural area- and has access to many areas of the state because of its central location.

When I knew I wanted to move to the area I started investigating East Hampton, Marlborough, and Hebron. I found EH to be not quite as nice (asthetically) as the other two towns. The "downtown" area has a few old factories and some historic contamination (old Brownfields) and just didn't look nice to me. Not that there aren't pretty areas of EH but that area turned me off of the town. Also, I didn't like that you had to travel a ways into Marlborough to get to Rt. 2, or all the way through Middletown to get to 91. I eventually chose Marlborough for the easier access to Rt. 2, plus it is quicker to get to I-91 by going Rt. 2 to Rt. 3 to 91 than it is to drive all the way along Rt. 66 to Middletown/91. I also didn't like the heavy development of Lake Poctopog (I probably butchered the spelling of that) and I liked that Marlborough had Lake Terramuggus to swim in which has houses around it and is much smaller, but much better in my opinion. Plus I thought Marlborough just looked nicer and I liked the town's plan for growth and development. I decided against Hebron mainly because Marlborough had better/quicker highway access, though I do like the town.
Of course what looks nice and all that is subjective, just my $0.02.

To offer some clarification, the Town of East Hampton is on the Connecticut River as a result of Middle Haddam, a hamlet in East Hampton, being on the river.

I have heard mixed things about East Hampton. People I know that live there like it and others do not. I have heard mixed things about the schools as well. It can be a difficult place to commute from since you either need to take the bridge to Middletown to access Route 9 or take Route 2 north into Glastonbury. There are nicer places but there are some very nice neighborhoods there (Middle Haddam is ver charming) and the home prices are good. It is growing pretty fast with a lot of new homes. JMHO Jay

EH just kind of leaves me flat. That's about all I can say. Not horrible, not great. Just "there".

I have a good friend who lives there. I just find it to be out of the way for anything. They love it, not my cup of tea. A long commute to anywhere.
