Hello, I will probably be taking a job in Mahwah, NJ and my boyfriend will be taking a job in New Haven. I can only handle about a 45 minute commute to work.... any suggestions for where to live? I was looking at possibly White Plains, NY? I have no idea of the traffic patterns.... any advice would be appreciated.

So you'll be commuting to Mahwah and him to New Haven? White Plains would be an hour's drive to New Haven but the positive is it is going against rush hour traffic (reverse commute). He would also have the option of taking the train (Metro North) into New Haven making his commute even easier.

Your boyfriend will probably hit quite a bit of traffic until he gets past the Stamford/Norwalk area. I think it will take much more than an hour to commute to New Haven.

The train is only an option if he wants to drive into CT and take Metro-North from there to New Haven. There's no direct train line from White Plains to New Haven.

Commute time should be about an hour with no traffic (reverse commute) on the Merritt Parkway.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest checking out Stamford or Greenwich.
