Hey all,

recent transplant to the CT area from MA. Used to have my car serviced by a dealer I trusted, now need to find a new service provider that isn't running a scam.

I hit up the Midas out in Rocky Hill and the jackholes tried to get me to pay for their $100 power steering service. They put a bunch of fluid dots onto some paper and tried to tell me that my ps fluid was "abnormally dark". Except in exceedingly rare cases, you NEVER touch the ps fluid.

Not to mention the weirdness that they have a coupon for an oil change and tire rotation for $26.99 but when I upgraded this to full synthetic oil they tacked on a labor charge of $28.99 (how there is suddenly more labor because they're using different oil is beyond me)

So yeah, I won't be going there again. Anyway, who do you trust with your vehicle? I really don't want to have some yahoos try wrenching me out of at least $300 everytime I visit.

so by the lack of response I assume there are no trustworthy mechanics? :P

While I live in Cromwell anyone in the vicinity that you can recommend is appreciated (Rocky Hill, Meriden, Hartford, etc)

I don't mind driving 20 minutes to get to a good shop.

While neither of these locations is convenient to where you are, these are two that I recommend:

Anthony's Service Station
136 East Main Street
Plainville, CT 06062
(860) 747-5791
Ask for Pierre. He -- and they -- are terrific.

This next place is not the best price-wise, but they're very nice.
Modern Tire
7 Raymond Rd
West Hartford, CT 06107
(860) 233-5177

Here is one not too near you, but not a terrible drive. I can attest that he's top notch and works on all makes of cars. A great guy and great mechanic for a very reasonable price. He did the timing belt on my wife's Honda Civic, complete for $530. Thats timing belt, power steer and alt belts, water pump and coolant.

Default great 'plainville' mechanic info

even though your "d and j" info was posted a couple of years ago, i needed it -- bad! i'm just off the phone with pierre at anthony's, and will be seeing him tomorrow.

this kind of information on the forum is so incredibly valuable.

thanks to everybody who shares "good help" info.... there's no 'angie's list' in my area (shoreline) and this is my go-to resource (i wouldn't really want to use angie anyway)......

happy last-days-of-summer to all.
