Hi Folks...I'm possibly relocating to the hartford area...work would be in W. Hartford. I have friends i have visited many times that live in Hebron and Lebanon. Love that area. How affordable is this area? How is the commute from hebron to W.Hartford? I'm looking to rent a home or apt. Dont recall seeing apts out there though. Overall whats available in terms of desirable communities within a 30 mile radius of W.Hartford? TIA

I don't know much about Hebron or Lebanon other than they are pretty rural and are in one of the most affordable parts of CT. That said, if you're working in West Hartford, I'd suggest that you live west of Hartford to make your commute easier. Bristol is a good place to rent. You won't find many rentals in the smaller towns, and rentals in West Hartford will be fairly pricey. Worth a look though, since WH is a beautiful town.

Thanks KY...I have looked at google maps and according to them Hebron is only abt 25 miles from West Hartford and commuting would be mostly on Rt2...Since I own 2 motorcycles i would be riding them to and from work as much as possible. I will look into Bristol...West hartford maybe nice but I need afordable rents. I prefer rural to city anyways...Open to other suggestions...

Route 2 isn't bad with traffic but at some point you'll have to get on 84 (I think) which can be tough during rush hour, especially on a bike.

There are lots of beautiful rural towns west of Hartford - New Hartford, Harwinton, Burlington, Canton. Your commute would be much less than 25 miles. Again though, in the rural towns, rents will be harder to come by.

My commutes will be off peak times...basically equivalent to 2nd shift...2:30-11:45 pm. I have looked and yes Rte 2 will run into I84. I really would prefer being east of the CT river..love the rural areas...Thanks for those town suggestions...will give them a look over.

Hebron is about 25 miles to West Hartford so without traffic the trip would be about 30 to 40 minutes. Since you want a more rural area and to be near your friends, I would suggest looking for a rental in East Hampton. It is close to Hebron and Lebanon and there are some rental units there plus you can avoid Hartford by crossing the Connecticut River and taking Route 9 to West Hartford. Jay

If you are off peak, and on a bike most times. ( 24 years myself. ) it won't be that bad going from Hebron but Lebanon will be a hike...a lot of it depends on where in West Hartford. If you are on the Hartford line or near the highway not so bad...if you are over on the Farmington side that could add a decent amount of time and traffic.

The motorcycle saftey director of CT lives in Hebron and rides into Wethersfield via 384 all year long. (He's a friend and Hardcore!)

Add Marlborough to your list. Right on RT2, rural and really nice.

I would also consider the small towns attached to I384 such as Andover, Coventry and Bolton as that allows you hop on I384 which is a breeze into DT Hartford.

Thanks JV...
Work would be at the American School f/t Deaf 139 N.main W.Hartford...Lebanon is only 8 miles from Hebron so not that much further... I was also looking at Middletown...I know its not rural but from what I've seen its a nice town...comments? Also looking at New Britain??
I've been riding for 34 yrs and dont mind winter at all...as long as the roads are clear of snow and ice. I find its alot easier to stay warm than it is to stay cool...

Wow....another person relocating from NC to CT! Lol. I am seeing a pattern lately with this. Is NC really not all it's cracked up to be?
