Default Good areas in Stamford to live for young families

Can anyone give me some basic 411 about the different neighborhoods in Stamford? We're seeking neighborhoods that generally feel safe, have young families living in it, have nice homes (newer is a huge bonus), and maybe other little things like:
- sidewalks so I can take my kids for walks from time to time or my husband can go for a run
- preschools or other kids ammenities scattered close by
- ethnic diversity is a bonus, although my expectations aren't too high (but we're a half south asian, half caucasian couple with 2 preschool age children).

We're interested in Stamford b/c of my husband's commute to downtown Stamford. We're looking into just renting a house for now- not buying. And we're interested in at least 3000 sq ft, with a budget of up to $5k in rent.

I realize there are a lot of other towns that also fit this bill. But right now I'm interested in learning more about Stamford.

Thanks!

The newer houses are primarily located north of the parkway. Unfortunately, walkability isn't a high point in that area. In your search, avoid anything with an 06903 zip code, as this area is completely north of the parkway. Certain portions of the 06902 zip also are north of the parkway. The 06905 and 06907 zip codes are very safe neighborhoods with decent walkability. There are newer homes in these areas, but not nearly as many as you'll find above the parkway.

Springdale meets your description but I am not sure you will find many newer homes there. Jay

Shippan is a great area for everything you mention except the new construction (there may be a few). There are not too many rentals but are some. People always remark about my sidewalks, which I guess are not too common here ?? We have one small Catholic school for pre-k through 5th grade and can walk to all the beaches. its a quiet, safe, family friendly community - I love it. And certainly more diverse than Darien. 5 minute drive to the train.

Weird. I never knew that. Den Road is split into two by the Merritt at the Russian church.

Give me some roads and I'll give you a nice rundown of it...I know Stamford very well.
