Hi all, I recently moved to Hartford. I found a place I like in West Hartford, but the rent is steep ($1250/month before utilities). Luckily it was a 3 month lease so I will moving out soon. I work as a teacher so my salary is not great.

The place I live now is nice but it's just too big (2 bedroom with at least two rooms I do not use!!) and too expensive. I need to find a place that will let me be comfortable but won't cost so much money or have so much wasted space. I would be happy in a studio or a 1 bedroom.

The problem is, I really feel like every studio or 1 bedroom I look at in West Hartford or the West End is either really expensive (IE Westgate apartments: $1000 for a studio) or has a bad reputation online (IE 711 Farmington Avenue, which has cheap studios and 1 bedrooms but lots of complaints about management).

It's frustrating because my friend has a nice studio in West Hartford that she got for $650/month; the other tenants are quiet and the management is helpful. I am so afraid that everywhere I look that's within my budget is going to be seedy or with noisy other tenants.

Can anyone offer tips or recommendations for west end Hartford or West Hartford apartment hunts? Studio or 1 bedrooms, looking to spend less than $900/month. Or general tips welcome.

I am using craigslist, hotpads, apartment ratings and driving around town to find places. So far the hunt is not going well. Thanks in advance.

Default Clemens Place

Have you seen this group of apts ??

Rates & Floorplans « Clemens

They have studios starting at $770. It is a group of buildings near the Mark Twain house, and were totally renovated. My daughter and family lived there for several years and were quite happy with everything.
