I've seen this for a few days now. While driving up the Merritt parkway northbound I'd see some cars parked way off to the side in some grassy area next to the tree line. This has been around the Waterbury exits, just before them really. Time frame has been between 5:30-6:30.

Anyone else seen this and know what those people are doing? Fishing, hunting, mushroom picking?

If it's a secret and don't feel like telling the world, least PM me... I am curious!

Sorry but the Merritt does not go through Waterbury. Are you talking about the Route 8 exit which is the only one I can think of that says Waterbury on it? I am not aware of any secret spots along the parkway. The cars could be for construction workers that are working on the highway rehab project that is currently going on along the parkway in Trumbull and Fairfield. Jay

I have seen people fishing off to the side near the "no exit zone" along the northbound lanes.

Where? In Stratford? I know people park along the Wilbur Cross northbound in North Haven. They park there to fish in the Quinnipiac River which runs along side that section of the parkway but I don't think I ever have seen people park along the Merritt. Jay

I think it may be Bridgeport actually. There's a grass section that goes pretty far in along the woods and I have seen cars parked there. Looked like they were fishing, but I could be wrong.

I can't think of anywhere in Bridgeport next to the parkway that has somewhere for people to fish. Does the Bridgeport city line even go as far north as the Parkway? I thought that was Trumbull, then Stratford.

To the OP, I agree that Waterbury is nowhere near the parkway. I'm assuming you mean Rt. 8, which runs alongside the Housatonic, or maybe it's a different river?

I think the OP means near the exit for Route 8 on the Merritt, since the sign says "Trumbull/Waterbury".

Yes Kidyankee is correct, I mean the waterbury exit, sorry for not being clear there.

Anywho, I was headed down to my new apt and saw the cars there today, many more today. I am really curious as to what people are doing. Smoking some hemp in the woods? Been traveling through this area all summer and just noticed this occurrence daily for the last week or so.

Perhaps they're construction employees personal vehicles? I've noticed quite a few parked off the roadway in Fairfield.

Might be bowhunting. I believe theres a few places you can acess state land along the parkway. Its what I always assumed anyway when I saw the cars & trucks. Bowhunting season started the 15th.
