This is true. But I would not rule out East Granby either. I believe its high school tested very high on the Connecticut Mastery Tests (like the highest in the state). It is a very small high school so there is a lot of personalized attention. I think there are less than 400 students in the school. Maybe that is too small. Anyway, as JViello said, "You really can't gp wrong" with Simsbury. Jay

Thanks agian. How is Farmington? The high school seems to be somewhere between Simsbury and Granby in terms of size. They have a good basketball program, and good academics.

I know I'm going all over the place...

Terri - Farmington schools are considered excellent too. Among the best in the area. Generally the top towns are (and I am not putting them in any order here) Avon, Farmington, West Hartford, Simsbury and Glastonbury. Granby would be next to be added to the group. All have excellent academics. I believe all have a good basketball programs. I should note though that a smaller school would give a student a better chance to participate in the basketball program. There would be more competition in a larger school so only the very best get picked to play. I know this is happening in Glastonbury where the high school now has around 2,000 students. Jay

Adding to JayCT's comment - Farmington property taxes are lower (more reasonable) relative to many other towns, especially among the rest of "big 5" that JayCT mentioned.

hi terri i dont no if you have considered Eastwindsor also known as Broad Brook , it boarders Windsorlocks there are many new houses that have just been built and the are building many new houses as we speek and are also in the process of building upper class condominus. The highschool has about 500 students and last year Eastwindsor won the Conneticut Class s basketball championship it has one of the lowest taxes in the area and Eastwindsor about 10 minutes away from Hartford and Springfield.

I appreciate your imput. I just looked up East Windsor's school ratings on "Greatschools.com", and it scored a 3 out of 10 in academics. Our #1 priority is academic quality, and then the basketball program. Since the kids are playing high level AAU, the competition of a bigger school is ok. I'd rather they have to earn a place on a good team, then think they have no to do work on a smaller team with no competition.
It looks like we're going to take a look at Simsbury, Farmington, and Glastonbury. Granby's a possibility, but it doesn't seem to offer enough AP classes in the high school.
thanks everyone.

Well I live in Granby, it's a beautiful town, very rural, lots of farmland and wilderness. The schools are pretty good, not much shopping here. We do have the necessities in our town like a Stop and Shop, CVS, vet, among others and two video stores and good restaurants like the Cambridge House and Goomba's.

Simsbury...a more wealthy town but I hear the schools aren't as good.

Many towns have excellent programs for baseball. Glastonbury's is good. Not sure of the others. You might want to start your own thread with this question. Jay
