Moving to Windsor Locks area
We are a family of 6 relocating from the Pittsburgh area in August (my husband's new job is in Windsor Locks). Our children are 15, 11,11, and 6. We would like to use the public schools, and were specifically looking at the towns of Glastonbury, Simsbury, and Granby. Our oldest three children are all big time basketball players (they play high level AAU), but especially our 15 year old son,(6'6" tall) who will be a freshman.
Could you give us any advise? They are all bright (whose children aren't , so the academics are equally important.
Up until now, they've all been in private schools. We are looking at houses in the $400-500,00's.
Thanks, I'd love some imput.

Granby population about 12,000 would be to the west of Windsor Locks, on the same side of the Connecticut river. South Windsor-population 26,000 is an option for a larger town with more high school athletic activities and fine academics lies about the same distance across the Connecticut river from Windsor Locks. South Windsor has more shopping options and other activities then Granby. Homes at 400k will buy much in both towns.

Suffield is a small town- and is very attractive; one issue to consider is the proximity to Bradley International Airport. Being that close to the landing pattern of large jets might prove bothersome sometimes. Just A Thought.

We lived in Windsor Locks several years ago, for a year. We loved it, and thought Suffield was beautiful. Our son was only 2 then, so no experience with schools. We never seemed to notice the airplanes, but then I grew up in Va Beach and was quite used to Navy jets doing their exercises.
I'd go back to the area if we could afford it!

Glastonbury would be a little far of a commute to Windsor Locks, so I would not necessarily recommend it to you. Simsbury and Granby would be a lot closer. Both of those towns have good schools with Simsbury being considered excellent (among the best in the state). Simsbury is also considered to be one of the most desrieable towns in greater Hartford with a lot of great stores, restaurants and family oriented activities. Home prices there would be high than Granby. Granby is a bit more rural in character and offers limited shopping but I have found Granby to be one of the friendliest towns I have been in. Either would be good choices to live in for your family. Jay

Thanks..I'm looking forward to visiting the area and checking things out. We used to live in Ridgefield, CT, about seven years ago, and am really glad we're not moving to that part of the state...

G464687 - in your price range with enough bedrooms and bathrooms for the kids.

Granby and Suffield may be better bets for basketball than the East Granby listing I provided though.

Thanks...the East Granby schools seem really small. I'm going to check out the listing, though, thanks.
I think we need to visit the schools, and decide which district and town would work best for us, then choose a house.
Is Simsbury a good choice?
