I live in Stamford and i'm just wondering which supermarket is, on average, the cheapest?

There's a Stop and Shop, A&P, And Shop Rite/Grade A markets near me.

When I was living in Danbury, it tended to be that the Brookfield Shop Rite was cheaper than the two A&P and S&S in town. On some items, the other two might be better than Shop Rite - but on average Shop Rite was better.

If you're talking about all of FFC, I would think maybe the Food Basics on the corner of Park and North in Bridgeport.

I agree with 7 Wishes about Food Basics being cheap but so is Price Rite in Bridgeport. If you're looking to stay in Stamford for your shopping, Shop Rite will have the lowest all-around prices but Stop & Shop will have higher quality produce and a lot more cardholder discounts. If you use cardholder discounts at Stop & Shop for most of what you need, you'll get high quality foods/brands for reasonable prices. At Shop Rite you may have to buy store brand foods and "okay" produce if you want to pay less.

Funny, I found just the opposite. I shop and plan menus from the circulars and stock up when items are on sale. I shop at both stores. Shop Rite also has the same cardholder policy as S&S but it's rather a joke as the cashiers swipe a card for everyone at both stores. I will go out of my way and drive further to shop at Shop Rite...I find their produce and meat are better quality and more selection at Shop Rite. Shop Rite has a much larger seafood selection than S&S's. Shop Rite's organic produce is cheaper than S&S's.

However, for the best meat around Stew Leonard's is the place for me!

Damn, I was gonna say Aldi, but I just did a store locator search and there are NONE in FFC! I guess FFC is too rich to allow Aldi anywhere.

are there any Super Targets around you? I moved to VA from Fairfield County and that's where I shop down here, rock bottom prices!

While I would't put in Aldi in the middle of Westport, I think it would do well in Danbury, Bridgeport, possibly in the valley as well.

I went to Aldi once. Never again. Just not in to it. I'll spend more on my groceries. Of course I look for that foo-foo healthy stuff.

Although I rarely go, C-town in Danbury has low produce prices.
I prefer a combination of Caraluzzi's, Costco, Shop-Rite & a touch of Trader Joe's
