Hi,
I will be moving to Stamford for a new job and am looking for apt right now. My ideal place would be a happy medium that does not get too painful even during the rush hour going to NYC or Stamford in either direction. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

lol...Park yourself in Stamford you wont like the commute either way all the way to NYC. You'll have reverse commute if you live in Port Chester, Rye, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle but you posted this in the wrong forum to talk about those towns. lol

The first response is so right on. If you're going to work in Stamford, then make your life easy and live there. Lots of housing options there. Even the reverse commute is not something you are going to want to do long term if you don't have to.

How about White Plains? I know that 95 North in the mornings (towards Stamford) is not too bad since it is a reverse commute. Same should be true for the evenings. Also, White Plains has an express train to New York City, although Stamford does as well. I also think you should post this in the Westchester forum if you haven't already done so.

Stamford has excellent train service to NYC. During rush hour trains leave several times an hour and take about :40 minutes if you take an express. You will have difficulty finding a seat, but if you can stand for :40 minutes, you're golden...

Many of the trains from beyond Stamford actually take longer than the expresses available from Stamford due to all the stops in Westchester.

If you want to commute via train, I'd say Rye or Greenwich. But I definitely would consider White Plains if you dont mind driving over -- I went from WP to Darien for 2 years and it was great. My husband took the 30 minute train into NYC every day, and we could easily walk to restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. We only left when we wanted a house, but apartments in WP are better than anything we saw in Stamford.

Since you made no mention of affordability or financial constraints, I would recommend either Bronxville or Scarsdale! Those places are even richer than anything in CT.

Greenwich has 7 billionaires on Forbes 400. Bronxville and Scarsdale had none. It doesn't really mean much but I would say all three of these are pretty nice places to live if you are wealthy. Jay

Well, Bronxville and Scarsdale have higher per capita income than Greenwich (Census 2000). Even those 7 Greenwich billionaires aren't enough to make the per capita income higher than those two towns.

Yes, but Greenwich is a much bigger town. It is also very diverse. As I said they are all pretty weathy and very nice towns to live in. Jay
