Friend has a firewood permit at the water company. They give out permits to harvest trees that have fallen or are unhealthy.

I have barely touched my stacks. Been mostly burning scraps around the yard.
Nice clean wood there. Looks like Red Oak! Something I've avoided using is the hard hot burning woods like red Oak, Cherry, Birch, ect. No need! Actually, there was a few times over night when we hit single digit and teens.

But yeah .. I've only used 3/4 cord so far. Crazy! The least I ever used was 2.5 cords for an entire season (Oct-May). 2011-12

I keep forgetting how cold it can still be in the morning. A couple of times I didn't light the stove and woke up to a cold house. lol. Dipping to 20s and 30s still. Common for this time of year but when we're in the 50s and 60s we think it stays warm at night.

Thought Id be done with this stack in January.. nope. Only used a total of less than 2 cords since October. Least amount since having the wood stove.

Came home to a surprise. One of my Arborists dropped off some Cedar Logs for me. Not the greatest for firewood. Cedar is actually better and excellent for kindling but it will burn fine when seasoned..

Only thing is the oils in it makes it pop & spit so not recommended for fireplaces. BTU output is about 12 per cord. Just to compare Oak is 23BTU per cord.

The Aroma and the color is amazing!

Got the fire going a little right now. Didn't pass 54F today.

This Cedar will be for Winter 2017-18. So I'll let you know by experience how it burns.

Brrrr...YES. And WOW Cam! Those are gorgeous logs! They're perfect for camp stove cooking. If you can cut a cross down the end with a chainsaw about 8 or 10" down, you drop a lit candle down there and it begins to burn slow on the inside. You can set your pot on top and have coffee or stew bubbling in no time. And it smells heavenly. I've see people sell them at little fairs (in MS).

Yeah, I wonder where the rest of the tree went. lol. Probably sold it to some mill maybe? My brother in law is good at making stuff with wood. I might save him a piece.

Interesting about the candle idea.

Looks like we'll need the stove again tonight. Posting the Low temp forecast in the weather thread now
