Not a bad "crib" idea.

Yeah, I didn't think by time i got to my 4th & 5th cords they'd be buried in snow. so no biggy, more shoveling to do.

5° outside, 75° inside and the furnace hasn't come on. Daaam! But damper fully open the stove is drinking the wood.

Black birch test in progress.

We're running the stove in the morning to early afternoon, then let it burn down when nobody is home and fire up the furnace.....don't care for hearing that thing roar, but running low on wood (all Oak) and trying to stretch it till Spring. With temps the way they are, gotta keep the pipes warm....and the pup

Out of curiousity, are there any wood stove inserts that have more than one viewing window? The fireplace I am looking at is open on two sides (sharing a corner).

How can you have inside set at 75 degrees if you love the cold weather? I'd pass out in that heat inside - too stuffy!

Don't think I saw ever saw one like that and not sure if they would be able to make that. Did you try Googling it??

lol, it was single digits outside and was nighttime.. Would you believe the house dropped to upper 50s by 6am? . Glad I had it in the mid 70s at least. Should of brought it to 80. Furnace had to come on this morning.

I would say it ran for a total of 1 hour past 24hrs.

Oh, Black Birch...

Smells great. Burns medium to hot. Doesn't smoke. Doesn't spit. Doesn't leave a thick bed of coal but stays warm for long time like Cherry. Ashes are very fine.

Cherry still my favorite all time.

.
I would totally believe it - I've been turning my heat UP to 52 on the cold overnights - and days like today when I'm out of the house as well. When it's in the 20's or above the house will stay in the mid-50s on its own but lower temp/no sun/wind (choose any one) and it will drop.

You must walk around in shorts and a short sleeve shirt all day! No blankets on the beds…. lol

Down to my last bit of wood. I have plenty more, but it's buried under snow and I don't really feel like digging it out.
