No , because this corridor is not dense enough for Trams unless it were routed onto the city streets and thats out of the question. Trams would only work in the Cities of Bridgeport , Hartford , Stamford and New Haven....not really outside the city borders. Your state can't copy NJ in Light Rail Contruction , due to the way your laided out.

I do believe the trams can be replace the busway New Britain-Hartford. During the evening the bus that gose from Hartford to New Britain get really crowded, it's overwhelming in my taste. And I cant image what it be like in the future because more people wont want to drive their cars because of the gas price.

Train can reduce that problem. I believe the tramway can work out. Who say CT copying New Jersey?

I think its too early for a Tramway , maybe 20 years form now.... NJ is built differently then CT , thus our Tramways go out into the suburbs along Dense corridors. Other states are trying to copy us , but it only works in NJ and SE PA.

I think the New Britain-Hartford busway will work well. I have to agree with some of the other posters that rail between Waterbury and Hartford just wouldn't be sustainable (at least at this time). The worst part of I-84 is between New Britain and Hartford, and the busway will provide an alternative to many people that would normally use that busy stretch. I also like the idea that other commuter buses will be able to jump on the busway and avoid the worst traffic. It won't work for everyone, but I'm sure many will take advantage of it. And it will make New Britain a bus transportation hub, which will help that city (sorry Bristol). If people from Bristol/Southington and other points west of the busway want to use public transit into Hartford, then they can take a commuter bus, and those buses will now be able to bypass the busiest portion of I-84 via the busway.

In the far future, though, I suppose it would be possible to extend the busway into Bristol if needed. Are busways usually effective for those distances? Also, there are a bunch of at-grade crossings in New Britain/Plainville/Bristol that would have to be dealt with along that line. Trains would probably have to stay at a pretty low speed through those areas, but I would imagine buses could safely pass through at higher speeds.

Maybe they should have light-rail along I-84, the middle of the highway

Default Conn. mayor wants to upgrade train rail to Brattleboro

Conn. mayor wants to upgrade train rail to Brattleboro - Brattleboro Reformer

This could work very well given the towns and places along the line , it could eat into the growing bus transportation trend.
