Thank you everyone for your responses, there's some very valuable info there!!

Renting, we don't want to spend more than $4K/M (need a 4bedder) & this certainly seems possible, although it's hard to tell what the houses are like until you see for yourself.

My family will allow a toilet trained dog but we don't have the four bedrooms you need. I think most families will allow dog after some negotiation since renters with dogs are very common (which is why they rent single family homes instead of condo in the first place!). Since you are open to a lot of towns, Im sure you can find something within your price range. Good Luck! With a $4k budget I will probably look for something on the Coast like Darien/Westport.

To the OP, many landlords would be willing to negotiate with you, even if the listing specifies "no pets". Just be aware that they will often require an additional security deposit for any damage.
