Haddam on the Conn River???
I am interested in finding out about the area of Haddam on the Conn River. There is a house there that my family is interested in but I can't seem to find much about the area such as the schools, quality of life, convienience to shopping. If anyone lives there or near there or can shed some light it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

There are towns near the Connecticut river in Middlesex county called East Haddam and Little Haddam- I would assume you mean East Haddam, since it is closest to the CT river.
Firstly here is a link to the towns web site;
East Haddam, Town of East Haddam, East Haddam Connecticut
The town is famous for Gillette Castle and the highly regarded Goodspeed Opera House.
Population is around 8400.
East Haddam has a laid back rural character of a New England river town.
Shopping is rather limited. With the closest large supermarket in Colchester; located to the northeast, about 11 miles away. And the largest mall in Waterford (in the SE) about 19 miles way.
Middletown across the CT river to the NW also has larger shopping venues at about 15 miles away. There is some shopping and some very fine restaurants in Chester & Deep River (5-6 miles away) Essex (7 miles away) and Old Saybrook (14 miles away)
I have no information regarding schools. The quality of life would be considered good.

Thanks for the reply. I know it is halfway between East Haddam and Higganum and it is West of the river (actually it is on the river but the west side). The schools are Haddam Elem and HKMS and HKHS. I can't seem to find any info about that specific area though. I don't know if any of this helps in terms of giving a better idea of where I mean. Thanks for any info or replies.

Yes it is west of the river- in fact does not even show on the MSFT streets software. Towns website at Town of Haddam, Connecticut
And town departments Town Departments (broken link)
population around 7,100. Other information above only altered by the crossing of the CT river.
Schools information Regional School District 17

There are two towns in Connecticut with "Haddam" in their names: Haddam and East Haddam.
Haddam is the only town in Connecticut that is on both sides of the Connecticut River. Haddam is comprised of Haddam, Higganum, and Haddam Neck. Haddam and Killingworth are part of Regional School District 17.
East Haddam is comprised of East Haddam, Little Haddam, and Moodus. Its southwest corner touches the Connecticut River. East Haddam has its own school district.
By the way, Middle Haddam is in East Hampton.

LOL Welcome to provincial and ancient CT. Gotta love what became of the original settlers in New England. Nothing like living in a village that doesn't really exist to the post office, inside of a small town, inside of a county, inside of a state. LOL

That is too funny. Well at least I know that these places really are there. Now I'd love to hear some residents of Haddam share their thoughts. Thanks so much for the help

Hadlyme is also part of East Haddam. This is a nice somewhat rural area along the Connecticut River. Schools are very good but a bit small. There is not much in the way of shopping here. No big stores or malls nearby. There are not even supermarkets in these towns. People in Haddam generally travel to Middletown to shop which is immediately to the north of Haddam. East Haddam residents travel over to Colchester to shop. Some now go to East Hampton. I have family that lived in Haddam for a couple of years (they moved around a lot for their job) and they really loved it there. Jay

Hadlyme is a section of Lyme (northwestern corner). To get there, one would travel from Route 82 south to Route 148 west or take Joshuatown Road or Day Hill Road.
Folks living on Shelter Rock Road, East Haddam, get their mail delivered to the Hadlyme Post Office.
