Default Any place in CT that can be described as "granola"?

Hello-
Can anyone suggest somewhere in CT that may be described as somewhat granola or earthy? (If you are familiar, something like Hyde Park in Austin, TX) The requirement is that it is somewhere commutable to Bristol. Thanks for the help.

I am actually from Connecticut and currently live 8 blocks from the edge of Hyde Park in Austin. I can honestly think of no place in Connecticut that can be considered granola. The closest places I can think of are Northampton, Mass and New Paltz, NY but those are too far for you.

Connecticut is where hippies turn into yuppies.

the eastern counties in Connecticut of Tolland and Windham while not 'granola'
are not 'yuppified' either-not by a long shot.

The area is largely rural and earthy, with herbal farms, wineries, antiques and arts and a generally more bohemian feel then other parts of the state. With BMW's and Volvo's not that common.

Yes Eastern Connecticut is probably the closest thing to Granola you can find in the state. I think most people from Hyde Park would enjoy living in New Haven. It's not "granola" but it does have a lot of eclectic shops and restaurants.

p.s. The original message I left on this thread got me a negative reputation with the explanation, "Flame." I don't understand this-- is there any kind of investigative mechanism on the board to look into unwarranted negative rep? Please reply or PM me. Thanks

Don't know anything about Austin TX (although I am listening to a Stevie Ray Vaughan CD right now!), so I'm going to guess about your definition of "granola." In my opinion, New Haven or Middletown might be the closest that CT has to what you are looking for. N.Haven has Yale Univ., and Middletown has Wesleyan Univ., so both cities have something of a hip, academic, artsy vibe. Middletown would be about a 30 minute commute from Bristol; New Haven would be more like 45-60 minutes.

the answer from CTlibrian is somewhat factual. There is no real 'mass' of liberal thinking individuals in CT. Here it is what you make of it. I Have lived in CT for 25 years now, (aging hippie), and we make our own beds, of course the college areas are a bit more forward thinking. Just don't get shot in New Haven!

Oh, Middletown is not granola. Middletown is pasta. New Britain is pierogi, and Hartford is a mix of yellow rice and curried goat. Many small towns are Yankee Pot Roast : )
