Westbrook CT, Good? Bad? Stay as far away from as possible?
I recently posted about Westbrook, CT. No hits at all. My wife and I are driving up soon to see a house and get a feel for the area. When I ran a search on City-Data, I mostly found Westbrook lumped in with other towns, such as...There are 55+ condos in Old Saybrook, Clinton, East Lyme, Branford, Chester, and Westbrook.
No details about Westbrook itself. I have a young son. Is Westbrook the kind of town he will hate? Are we going to wish we'd moved to Madison or Guilford and never seen Westbrook on the map? Does the town have any personality, or is it a town people pass through on the way to someplace more interesting? I see the schools are small...are the kids bored and getting into trouble?
Is it a Stepford Wives kind of place? Animal sacrifices, dancing in the corn on moonlit lights, strange events on Halloween, unusual UFO sightings, people complaining about chips in their neck? What does this town have going on, does anybody have a sense of the area? Thanks.

Dockside - I am surprised no one responded to your OP. Sorry about that, must have been when I was on vacation. Westbrook is a nice small town on the Connecticut coast. It is not as upscale as Madison or Guilford (definitelly not "Stepford") but is still a very nice place. There is a nice small town center and some great seafood restaurants. The schools are considered to be very good, but not quite as good as the schools in nearby Madison or Guilford. Westbrook is the home to the Waters Edge Resort and Spa which has a great reputation. It is also home to Lenny & Joe's Fishtale, a really great casual seafood restaurant. We love going there. There is also the Westbrook Factory Outlet Center there and the larger nearby Clinton Crossing Outlet Center. The area does have a lot of vacation cottages so it does cater to tourists in the better weather and at time traffic can be an issue. It is still a very nice town and I am sure you will like there. Good luck, Jay

Coastal town
The town is small, many older homes, and cottages; rather artsy and 'salty' with some interesting restaurants along the post road;
that include seafood, and more.
Seafaring images, with boats. Very quiet and pleasant.

I grew up north of New Haven and Westbrook was known as one of the nice beach communities to have a summer house. Just went for the first time for a beach day and found it to be really nice - $20/day for public parking, little beach snack bar, bathrooms and good places to crab and fish. If you can afford it, it's a nice place.

For kids, I would chose Clinton. Yes I know, it's only one town over but there seems to be a lot more "kids" in Clinton and more "kid" things to do such as skate parks, BMX parks etc. I normally seem to hear the kids from that area saying how they "go to Clinton" for whatever or when I'm in Clinton (Family beach house) I always see a lot of kids in town.
That's just my observations though, take that for what it's worth.
Westbrook is a very nice small town as well.
Best of luck to you.
