And if you do not -is that bad?
Anyone who needs to brag/bully/impress incessantly usually suffers from some sort of insecurity.
Just an observation from someone who has lived life some.

I am not the one that started a whole thread that bashes people that have nice things. Just defending those. I never said someone was bad or wrong for not having nice things. But their seems to be a lot of it on this thread.

No one really cares....
You are jumping into a thread that's not about you.

It certainly is about me. This thread is bashing people because they have nice things. I think you need to read the thread before you comment. Why dont you check out the PMs I have received and see how many people agree with me and are laughing at this.

You're making me laugh but not in agreement.
Maybe your experiences of where you've lived doesn't suggest what the OP questions were trying to resolve for his/her possible relocation. I can feel that he/she is very tired of the materialism ratrace that comes with living in the NYC area mindset and the rest the OP and others here have articulated on. Unless you've experienced residing enough time in the NYC market most people who come from the outside have a difficult time of grasping and making sense of it all on this subject and perhaps some others. You have most posters in this thread that know of what the OP was referring to.
Nobody says you can't have nice things, it's how you carry yourself when having these things is where/what it's at and this is where it's quite different in most of the NYC market area.

You are missing the entire point. I agree 100% with what you said. However, judging people by what they have is what many are saying on here, and that is no different than judging people by what they dont have. The color of their skin, or what sex they are.

I have followed this thread carefully and have to agree with Josh. Just because someone drives a nice car doesn't mean they aren't nice people or are trying to show off. I grew up in an upscale suburb near New York and while I have met some that look down on you if you drive the wrong car, I have met others that don't. This can be said for any city in the country, not just New York or Connecticut. Some people's comments here are just as bad as the ones made by the type of people they are talking about. JMHO Jay

With all due respect, I think that you're being too defensive. Many of the posts HAVE BEEN FIRST-HAND TESTIMONIALS that you, being new to the area, have dismissed. I don't know how you can say that it doesn't exist when we've provided facts.
There are a lot of folks in the five boroughs, Nassau, Westchester, Fairfield, and Bergen Counties that do flaunt their wealth and do judge based on your house/car/clothing/jewelry. The OP was obviously concerned about this to start the thread.
If this doesn't pertain to you, great. There are a lot of down-to-earth folks driving $100,000 Mercedes and living in million-dollar homes that aren't pretentious or in debt...

What I am saying is that people are basing things just because of what type of car. That is wrong. give someone a chance.
