Let me the originator of this thread and the interesting dialouge it has become to ask the rest that we stop responding to this particular thread.

To the ones that didn't understand my intent must forgive me for not knowing that most of the world outside the NYC area can be different (in a good way) and it was not meant to "pick" on any particular group of people as well as offend anyone. I'm just not like that as a person and don't judge at all dispise of what it "sounded" like to some here.

I'm considering CT as well as the Philly Burbs, PA at this point in time FYI

I pretty much got my response here and I thank you all for your assistance, time, thoughtfulness, and energy with this question.

I'll definitely consider Connecticut as my new home.

I'm well aware that everyone has a right to their own opinions and that's what makes this site so good and I was not offended at the least.

I do have a thick skin but maybe was a little frustrated to make my point understood that's all.

Didn't you say in a previous thread less than a month ago that you owned a new Range Rover and Volvo?

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I don't think I am), isn't it a buyers market?

Let me jump in here.

I have a BMW X5 and a VW GTI. I'm not bragging, nor do I look down on other people for driving less "jazzy" vehicles. Before I bought my BMW, I drove a 2000 Jetta.

I'll break down what everyone is saying into my own words. I think outside of Connecticut (NY, NJ, LI, Westchester) there is a great deal of materialism. People need the most expensive car even if they live in the seedy areas in Yonkers or New Rochelle. They want to be noticed for what they drive. In Fairfield County, and the rest of Connecticut, I feel those who drive the expensive vehicles actually can afford them. Connecticut is a very modest state, very fiscally conservative (especially in lower Fairfield County), much more so than other areas of NYC. I absolutely do see the pretentious attitude associated with these cars. 'Since I'm driving a Mercedes, I can cut you off. Since I'm in my beamer, I can tailgate you and flash my high beams since you won't move over when we're both going 80.' I notice it very much, especially at work. Many folks drive BMWs and Lexus' and I hear their 'road rage' stories when they get to work in the morning. "This B!#$H in a crappy accord was going 70 in the left lane!" That's one I just heard today. Here in Westport, people are very well off. Nobody that drives a luxury vehicle here is living paycheck to paycheck, I can guarantee that. Oprah's theory couldn't be more false in Fairfield County. Sure maybe in NC, AZ, TX or TN.

Thing is, these people in CT can afford these cars. In other areas of NYC, I see 21 year olds driving Escalades and Corvettes. Many of these kids are dressed in rags, wearing ripped and stained clothing and who knows how they can afford this car. Drugs? Good credit and paying up the wazoo per month?

I think grouping CT in with the rest of the NYC area is false. Attitudes are not the same. Finances are different. Politics are different. CT is not as materialistic even though Fairfield County is wealthier.

Just because you drive a BMW doesn't make you snotty. It's HOW you drive the car, your attitude when you exit the car and the attitude you have towards others who drive less expensive vehicles.

That being said, joshtpa, you do have to live in the greater NYC area to understand. People here are, well....different.

Fairfield = Westchester = Nassau. Many folks in Fairfield are those priced out of Nassau or Westchester! How can they not be like those folks when some of them are those folks?!

Furthermore, many of those now looking for real estate in New Haven County are those priced out of Fairfield.

Default areas of Ct without Mercedes

Putnam, Pomfret area are not the financial centers of the world. Nice country type settings. Fairfield County is more affluent but the borderline along Massachusetts and Rhode Island are the areas to go for if you are avoiding the ritz. Katie

This is so well said.

I believe someone pointed out earlier that joshtpa has a credibility problem, so he may want to work on being honest first.
