Each area has it's own culture, even if they are neighboring counties or states. Life in general is a whole different ballgame in Ridgefield when compared to Syosset, NY. Take the five boroughs for example. Each one is completely different.

Furthermore, I'm not saying the people are vastly different. I'm saying their lifestyle, financial habits and their requirements (high or low) of success. Sure, Nassau county is more expensive than Fairfield, but Fairfield is the 5th wealthiest county in the nation while Nassau is 30th and Westchester is 12th.

I do not think we should be judging others here. It is nobody's business what Josh owns or leases or why. Just like judging people by the cars they own, judging people by whether they rent or own is just as bad. JMHO Jay

To the ones that didn't understand my intent must forgive me for not knowing that most of the world outside the NYC area can be different (in a good way) and it was not meant to "pick" on any particular group of people as well as offend anyone. I'm just not like that as a person and don't judge at all dispise of what it "sounded" like to some here.

I'm considering CT as well as the Philly Burbs, PA at this point in time FYI

I pretty much got my response here and I thank you all for your assistance, time, thoughtfulness, and energy with this question.
I must disagree with you here when it comes to pretentiousness. This exists everywhere, particularly in major cities.

Los Angeles - This has to be the country's premier pretentousness area. You can not get any more self-absorbed, can you? And that includes Orange County.

Chicago - There have been posts by people on this board about this problem in the Windy City

Miami - Same

Washingotn DC - The center of poticial power in our nation. Boy does it ever exist here.

Dallas/Houston - Isn't bigger considered better in Texas?

Pheonix - Scottsdale certainly wasn't built by or for unpretentous people. Many are from LA anyway.

Seattle - All those Microsoft millionaires? Yeap.

Philidelphia - I hate to say it but the first BMW I ever road in was from a friend who lived in Philly and yes it was common there too.

I could go on, but I think you get the point. I have met pretentous people from all over the country. New york may be more obvious to people since it is larger and denser than the other places. Jay

I lease one vehicle and own another. I own homes in Tampa, Cape Cod, Hilton Head, and now rent in Hartford. But there is nothing wrong with renting. You obviously have some sort of jealous streak. I lease a car because I drive very little and want something new every few years. Does that mean I cant afford to buy? That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. It is attitudes like yours that make people lash out to defend themselves.
