I need to rent a trailer to move some furniture locally. I live in New Britian so close to there would be ideal. I have a 2005 Explorer and because of morons with underinflated tires, u-haul will not rent to me even though I have years of towing experience.

Does anyone know of a place around here with reasonable places that will rent a trailer to someone who drives an explorer?

My understanding is that Uhaul won't rent to Ford Explorers- I have also heard that Penske won't either. However, Ryder probably will. Think there are Ryder's in Waterbury, Hartford, maybe North Haven. They may also be be a little cheaper than UHaul.

Trailers are a flat rate. Usually $20 or $30 a day. A box truck is $20+ a day plus mileage.

Its only the Explorer. If you have a Mountaineer or an Aviator (same exact SUVs) you can rent one. Its because they had 1 rollover case where they lost millions because some idiot didn't inflate their tires completely and sued U-haul. Now they wont rent to anyone with an explorer. It all ties back to the Firestone lawsuits where people wont take responsibility for their own actions (not keeping proper inflation in their tires). The lawsuits only affected 91-2001 explorers also, but they still wont rent to 2002 and newer owners.

Maybe I'll just take the badges off my explorer and tell them its an expedition. Most people who work there wont know the difference anyway.

Why don't you just rent the small Uhaul truck...I think it's like $39 for a full day.
