Small Family Seeks Info on East Granby Area..
I know this has likely been covered in previous posts, feel free to direct me there, but my wife, 1 year-old, and myself are looking at a potential relocation to the East Granby area, if the job comes through there.
We will be first time homeowners, and would like to keep my commute as short as possible.
Does anyone have any recommendations, or suggestions as to what community within 10-15 minutes of East Granby would be an ideal spot to buy a 4 BR, 2 Bath, 2000 sq ft-ish house w/garage?
The newer the better, because we know little about fixing up anything!
Thanks in advance, what a great idea this website is...just found it today.

East Granby is a small town located about 15 miles north of Hartford. It is located adjacent to Bradley International Airport so if you live in the area you may need to deal with an ocasional plane overhead. It is a nice small town with very good schools but being small the curriculum options at the high school can be limited. Shopping is also limited here. Most people drive to surrounding towns like Windsor, Windsor Locks or even ENfield to shop.
Just to the west of East Granby is the Town of Granby. I have found this to be a great place. It is small but a little bigger than East Granby. They have very good schools and I have always been impressed with the friendliness of people there.
There are many other great towns in the area that could suit your needs. Simsbury is also nearby and is considered one of Greater Hartford's premier suburbs. The schools are considered excellent but it can be pricey. Give us an idea of your price range and what your likes and dislikes are (urban, suburban, rural, shopping needs, entertainment needs, etc.), it will help us guide you in the right direction. Jay

Wow, thanks for the quick replies!
I guess we would ideally like to stay under 330K if possible...as for rural/urban/etc., we would like enough yard to mow, but shopping convenience isn't as big a priority as a roof over our head.
Thanks again.

Since you don't want a fixer-upper and your price range is somewhat modest, I would recommend not considering Simsbury since it is pricey. Granby would be nice. It has enough stores to live on, would be convenient to work and has very good schools. Also like I said, I always found the people there to be the friendliest. Plus it is very close to East Granby where you will work. With young kids that can be very important. Other options might be Suffield or even Windsor Locks. I would not recommend Bloomfield or Windsor though. Good luck, Jay

I think that 330K is a fair price for a home around 2000 square feet-
Have looked at Realtor.com? type in some of the towns that Jay mentioned above- and see what you can come up with.
From my own perusing of the site- you should be able to find a nice home in East Granby at around 300-330K around 1800-2000 square feet with a nice yard.

If working in East Granby, I would assume you would like the shortest commute possible.
There are some fine towns northwest and west of Hartford- some will have higher real estate prices then others. You should check Simsbury, Granby and Suffield as well.
Good luck! and of course welcome to the state

You can still find a home in Simsbury for that amount. Most people think that the town only has upscale homes that are pricey, not true. Simsbury is divided into four very distinct areas: Weatogue, West Simsbury, Tariffville and the rest of town. Tarrifrville is more blue collar and is small enough to feel like Mayberry. Weatogue is blue collar to middle management. It is between the two easiest ways to get over the mountain, so is popular. It is also close to great shopping.
West Simsbury is old money (and I think a little snobby). But you can find some deals there in older homes that have been kept up nicely. The rest of town is very mixed. Some neighborhoods are very expensive and some are 'first time home buyer'.
Good luck with your search.
