From Conn to NC
I relocated from Conn to NC many years ago and it was the best move I ever made. I was nervous at first but you get so much more for your money down here and taxes are lower also. The school systems are awesome as is the shopping, hospitals, colleges, beaches, mountains. It is a wonderful place to raise a family. You wouldn't believe how many northerners I run into everyday not to mention those from Conn. If you ever want to come here send me a note.

Thinking of NC
Hi Debbie:
My wife and I are near retirement and are thinking about relocation. We like the Carolinas but are thinking it is better for us just over the border in Tennessee. Seems the taxes are better in Tennessee, but then again I might be wrong. State income Tax is an issue as well as personal property taxes, etc.
Can you enlighten me any on these subjects? Your area is not out of the question yet!
On a side note, just curious as to where you were in Connecticut. I grew up in a small southwestern town on CT. called Ridgefield. !
It was real nice as a youngster back in the fifties and sixties, but once I got out of college and returned home things started to change rapidly. Interstate-84 finished up and brought many up from White Plains and Yonkers, N.Y. area. The community changed and I ended up leaving and relocating to Pennsylvania back in 1983.
Any thoughts you have would be most appreciated.
Hope you have a good day.
Snapline....
Hope to hear back from you.

Hi Debbie,
Relocated to FL. from Waterford, CT. 8 years ago. I like the beaches & weather here in Naples, but it is crowded and getting expensive. I'm still working, doing private duty nursing so we can't move yet. I have to live near the ocean. What are the prices in NC for a 3 bedroom house? How cold does it get in the winter? I hate the cold! Any other info. would be appreciated. We would like to visit sometime!

North Carolina is Overrated
I'm not sure how long you have lived here; but I've lived in NC for over 11 years now and moving here was the worst thing I ever did. I moved from just one state over in Upstate NY and still don't know why I have waited so long to move back. I live Apex (that's just outside of Raleigh) and have lived all over Wake county. The schools are horrible. They offer great classes and your kids will recieve a great education.... but they will also probably be re-assigned to schools at least 2 or 3 times. It's unbelieveable; kids don't grow up with lifelong friends because they don't ever go to school with the same kids and not to mention they don't even go to schools near their house. As to the lovely woman in Florida who asked about the winter; NC has the worst weather on the east coast. It is said to be the ideal middle climate, but the reality is It's unbearable hot and humid durring summer, and still pretty cold durring winter (highs in the 40's and lows in the 20's). Not to mention that durring spring NC gets the worst pollen allergins in the country. I would advise anyone in CT, or anywhere else in the Northeast, or in Florida (those two places are where most of the people who move to NC come from, florida and the NE) to stay where they are and don't move to NC. I'm moving back to Upstate ny this summer.

I hate to be cold and hate the snow. I still say NC is great. My children were relocated 1 time in elementary just 3 miles up the road. They kept their old friends and made new. So they had double the amount of friends. I took it with a positive attitude, thats why my kids adjusted well and also did awesome in school.Of course it will feel alot more humid coming from the north, but central air is everywhere. You do get so used to that. People from Florida are moving back to Nc a half way point. I think if you take a posssitive approach to things you will be better off and able to adjust alot better. We are lucky enough to have so many wonderful things in our state. Great schools, universities, hospitals, medical facilities, shopping, beautiful seaside communities, awesome mountains, really close to everything. We do have the cold season but for how long a couple months appossed to 5-6. I'll take the Raleigh area anytime thanks. Everyone does have their own opinion though, thats what makes life interesting.

from CT TO MI & back again
I moved from CT to MI (misled by a man ) in june 1997..I am moving home to CT summer 2007. Cost of living here is MUCH cheaper but, then, there are not many jobs. Not looking forward to how much CT is but, I will never leave again...CT Is home & that is where I will live the rest of my life! NOTHING like REAL seafood (red lobster is not real) & NOTHING Like fall in New England...

I can't stand Connecticut. It is now the highest taxed state in the country. The weather is miserable. The highways are some of the worst in the country. I mean it takes forever for them to fix anything on the highways. The people are always in a rush. Housing costs are sky high.Utilities are real high. I just got back from the Carolinas and the gas in Charleston was 50 cents less a gallon. The people down south are so much friendlier and courteous.I will take 85 and sunny anyday over 45 and rainy! I would rather live anywhere down south or out west than Connecticut,Mass,Ny,and Nj!!!!!
