Wolcott is definately more rural than Bristol. It has a small town feel although close to cities (Bristol and Waterbury) which you would most likely go to for shopping. They do have pharmacies and a small grocery store tho. I have heard from friends that live there that they do like the schools. There are some beautiful houses there that have gone up in the past few years also. As far as commute goes it depends on which side of Bristol you will be going to. Your commute can be anywhere from 5-20 minutes all roads no highway goes thru wolcott.

Hi Leeds,

Simsbury is a lovely town, and normally I would recommend it to anyone - but for someone who plans to commute to Bristol you'd be looking at a longer commute, so it probably isn't such a good idea here. The problem is Simsbury isn't accessible via any interstate highway and it's further north - meaning you have to drive through several towns just to get on the highway. There also aren't a whole lot of rental options as there are in other towns. Don't get me wrong, they exist but they're not as common as other towns.

Farmington is right next to it and would work, depending on where you are it might give you that laid back feel you want since some of it it still quite rural. And obviously Bristol would since it's the same city and you could rent their for the short term. Southington might also work as well - it's right next to Bristol and overall it's a pretty nice town, with a good amount of dining and shopping options (as well as housing choices). A few people have suggested West Hartford which also has many rental options (apartments, duplexes, a few condos for rent), the only downside is it's a bit further from Bristol, although you can get their via I-84 going west. A good friend of mine from college works for ESPN and just moved here from Manchester (Connecticut) and he and his fiance love it.

Wolcott schools generally perform well above the state averages on the Connecticut Mastery and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests. Jay
