Thinking about this as I was driving up on 25 this morning wishing I was actually traveling on a highway (though it turns out 84 [once I ended up on it] was just as bad if not worse). Anyways, Norwalk, Bridgeport & New Haven all have direct access to Danbury but it takes an insanely long time to get from those 3 cities up to Danbury (especially New Haven with the way 34 goes). Would be nice if 25 or even 7 was a full highway all the way through to Danbury instead of stop and go traffic lights once the highway portion of those highway's end.

Both Route 25 and Route 7 were suppose to be extended as expressways up to the Danbury area. Route 7 would connect to I-84 near the Danbury Fair Mall and Route 25 at the Route 34 interchange in Newtown. The land for Route 7 was even purchased already. Local opposition, environmental issues and funding stopped both of these projects. Also weak Governors who give in to special interest groups too easily helped. Instead people will have to put up with unbearable traffic conditions forever. Very shortsighted IMHO. Jay

I agree. 7 is ridiculous. 34 is a PITA and 25 is a bottleneck.

the biggest PITA commute i ever had was going from New Haven to Danbury. it was only 36 miles total (which would not take too long on a highway) but - as mentioned - there is no direct way to get there. i tried various routes but they all involved back roads and consequently all took forever.
the only route that didn't involve putting up with the backup at the 84 exchange in Newtown was getting on 110 in Shelton, taking that out to 111, getting on Fan Hill Rd and somehow ending up on 25, taking a left onto rt 302 and going to work from there (i was going to Shelter Rock Ln)..

It is pretty silly that the state doesn't have highways up to Danbury from the coast. They should have been built.

Its a thing called politics which is driven much more by money than it ought to be. A few high & mighty people in Ridgefield & Wilton killed the 7 connector from how I understand it. Shame really, I think that the traffic on 7 is probably a worse thing for the community than the highway would be.
I know that the ability for everyone to get to Danbury in a reasonable time sure oughtta outweigh some selfish persons desire to not hear a highway.

Maybe people could just live closer to where they work or take public transportation.

I tend to agree with that thought, but thats no excuse not to have a 20th century road to Danbury in the 21st century. I dont want to work there, just be able to reach it in less than 45 minutes.

its the rich ppl in wilton that won't let it happen, its been 20 years now. look what they did, made 7 2 lanes and a mess going through their small little town. now its amess and they can deal with that horrible decision. 7 should be like the norwalk part all the way to the danbury mall/84 connect
