Thanks - I'm leaning towards Essex for the community vibe, but it does seem like the schools in Madison are some of the best in the state. Thank you for all of this feedback, it is very useful.
In my opinion all the towns you picked are very nice and expensive, Clinton's school system sucks after the elementary school. Guilford and Essex are nice towns, but the people there are kind of snobs. If you're not up to their standards. Essex you're children will go to Valley Regional High School and that school sucks also, I went there. I'm not sure about Madison.
The Connecticut coast is a hidden treasure. I think if Connecticut had open access to the ocean, our coastline would be much more commercialized (YUCK). Thankfully, most tourists skip the Connecticut coast for Cape Cod and Rhode Island, so our beaches are pretty well hidden (besides Hammonasset in Madison). So, most of our shore towns are absolute gems. I personally like Guilford over Madison, but Madison over Essex or Clinton. I'd check out Old Lyme and Old Saybrook as well (though I am not sure how great the OS schools are). Welcome to Connecticut!
