i heard a couple months back that the Middletown building was supposed to be demolished eventually..
1. is this true? and when?
2. has anybody noticed that the wall of the wing closest to Industrial Park Rd looks like it fell away from the building. i've heard of snow and ice causing roofs to collapse but not individual walls. so was this due to some botched demolition attempt or the weather or maybe something else? definitely seems to be some damage there.

I know someone who works at Aetna and lives in Middletown. He said that they will be withdrawing operations from Middletown altogether, but I didn't hear about demolishing the actual building.

yeah i knew there was a mass exodus and that a small percentage of people stayed behind which is why i questioned the demolition myself but there does seem to be a collapsed wall there.

The Middletown campus of Aetna has two buildings, the large main building and a computer operations building. Aetna has closed the main building and transferred all of the employees there to Hartford where there is space vacated by the move of ING to Windsor. The computer operations building will remain.

Aetna no longer owns the land in Middletown. They sold it off years ago but still own the building itself. They have agreed to demolish the main building and return the land to the property owner for redevelopment. Right now it is anticipated that a large mixed use development will be built there incorporating retail, housing and commercial uses. How long it will take for that development to be built remains to be seen. I am not aware of any demolition going on yet at the site but I have not been by there in several months. Jay

It is slated to be torn down. Supposedly, they are stripping and 'recycling' the materials from the inside first, then tearing it down. I know that they started on the inside already and the entrances to the complex from Industrial Park Rd and Middle Street are closed. I haven't been by in the daylight for awhile so I don't know about snow damage.

It's so strange to think about not seeing that building-seems like I've lived in its' shadow (at least, visible of it) most of my life.

The workers moved to Hartford-Aetna bought 55 Farmington Ave and connected it to their neighboring campus by a parking garage-connector structure.

there is no snow damage. what you said about the stripping and recycling explains the wall being torn down. thanx for the info.
but i think the Middle St entrance is still open since the IT operations staff have to get in somehow. one of the 'branches' off the Middle St entrance is closed (probably the one that leads to the main building) but that's once you get inside the campus. the entrance from the street is still open unlike the IPR entrance.
