Default Road Cycling in Connecticut

I am considering the New Haven area in a few years. I currently live in Colorado (Denver area) and enjoy road cycling (average 20 miles on weekdays with long rides on weekends). I don't expect Connecticut to be as good for cycling as Colorado, nor drivers as friendly. Never the less, I can adapt.

Will I find many low traffic roads where I won't enrage drivers or endanger my life?

Could I easily use the Farmington Canal Trail to get to back roads in sparsely populated areas?

Thanks for your opinions!

You'll love that trail! I moved from CT to CO and that is a fantastic trail, even by CO standards. There are road biking groups that have trails posted. I've done some routes from Search Connecticut Bike Routes and Rides

Actually New Haven has one of the highest percentages of commuters to work on Bikes in the country. Elm City Cycling is a very well organized group. I think they have a website. Jay

Also, check out Railtrails.com. There will be a number of sites in New England that can also be ridden on by bike.

Consider the Farmington Canal trail, as the back road that cyclists ride to see Connecticut. It's not the trail that leads to the back roads. It IS the back road. The best thing about it, is that motor vehicles are not allowed except to cross it at certain points where it runs into a town street.
