Reef Road north of Oldfield Road is pretty busy because it is right in the center of town. I think that Stratfield Road is much busier though. Jay

Hi,
We had a corporate rental for 6 weeks near Reef Rd. and you get sirens at all hours of the night. Police and Fire. I personally wouldn't buy on Reef Rd also too close to the sanitation area that sometimes blows fowl odors. There are some really cute areas around town I personally wouldn't buy on Reef rd. One other issue w/ Reef Rd. is the college students have "areas" where they rent. If you drive around you can see many houses are divided up and those are the areas families try to avoid living. You can also see some apt. buildings. There are notorious parties in the rental areas and usually many newspaper articles about the situation in the local Fairfield paper. The police break up the parties but the issue is you get new renters all the time and the cycle continues due the fact that college kids are renting the apts.
Good Luck!

J&A'SMOM - Good points. I forgot that the sewage treatment plant is located off Reef Road as is the waste transfer station. Also the firehouse and police station are on the northern section near the Post Road. Jay

Thanks J&A's Mom - I did see that the sewage plant was off of Reef rd but further south than we are looking; do the foul odors stretch as far as Millard St? We were also thinking of a house in the Catherine Terrace area, but location did not seem as ideal to us as Reef. Would the odors etc affect a house up there?

That's funny because Catherine Terrace was where our Corporate Rental was. The house we rented is now owned by a family and I don't think there are any other rentals on the street. The other nice thing is that the street is a horse shoe shape so the kids can ride their bikes and it has very low traffic. It's a lovely street and nice families. You do get the siren noise but not the foul odor. We were only there 6 weeks. I'm sure if you live there you don't notice the sirens after a while. It would be really fun to live in town!

Stratfield road is on the opposite side of town-- both busy streets though, stratfield connects fairfield and bridgeport, also is the major road to take from fairfield to the trumbull mall. I would go with Reef road because even though there is traffic you are in walking distance to everything youll need

This is helpful. We're eyeing a house just off of Reef. We really liked the area when we visited this past weekend - neighborhoods seemed pretty friendly.
Edit to add: We're also looking at a place on Newell - anyone know if beach traffic/noise negatively affects this area?

Newell is right near Jennings Beach which is probably the largest beach in town. Ther may be some beach traffic on South Benson but on Newell itself you should not be bothered. Keep in mind there are large events occasionally at Jennings Beach (Like 4th of July fireworks, a couple of carnivals, etc.) so there may be some noise and traffic relating to that. But then again you would be a short walk to the beach which is very nice. Jay
