I had to drop off my sister in Stamford today and I have never had as many people approch my car to sell me drugs as I had today. The whole time, my sister was preaching to me about how safe Stamford is while people continued to approah the car. The traffic was also horrendous, which she blamed on some music festival in "West Park". Washinton Blvd. was detoured and our trek along the detour is where the "locals" were being extra aggresive. We had no choice but to endure them due to super long red traffic lights. There was not a cop in sight except for at beginning of the detour...

When we finally got to her apartment building, we found that her car had been vandalized -- in a gated lot. She actually tried to play it off as a one time, random occurance (so I wouldn't be worried).

I told her to move as soon as possible.

My advice, avoid Stamford. The low crime rate stats they tout are somehow being faked/forged and they also somehow convince the inhabitants (a.k.a. victims) that there is a low crime rate even when they are the victims of crime (I suspect by constantly reminding them that they are part of a hip, diverse neighborhood). My sister has even been brainwashed; she refused to call the police when we found her vandalized car. She just said, "this kind of thing doesn't happen aound here," eventhough it had obviously happened to her. Unbelievable...

I suppose that if your citezens don't report crime and the police don't arrest any criminals, there is low crime, right? Yeah!!! Stamford, CT now has low crime!!!

All you need to do is drive through Stamford once and you too will roll up your windows and lock your doors... There was nothing but dirtbags on the street at 4:00 PM in the afternoon. I cannot even imagine what it is like at night.

I also witnessed three people drive down the wrong side of the street on three separate streets.

Stay away.
I think you *might* be referring to Detroit or Cleveland.

I live in Stamford and it is a superior quality of life, surpassed by few US cities its size.

STAY AWAY FROM STAMFORD...

We already have too many people living here!

Just kidding, I just miss when it was a little smaller! In my opinion it is not only safe, but also one the best cities in the tri-state!

I hear crime in Newark has decreased considerably. But, I don't know what city you were in. I haven't seen droves of drug dealers like you described in Stamford in years. Yes, there is an element in every city and cars do get vandalized in Stamford too. Live @ Five does bring out more partiers 5 evenings per year. For the most part the Live @ Five events are safe. Stamford and Norwalk are by far safer than Newark. Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford aren't even any where as crime ridden as Newark and Irvington NJ. Other places I can think that are on the order of Newark are cities in South Florida (Miami Dade and Broward). I know, I've lived in most these cities and wasn't just driving through. Don't make the mistake; your sister is safer here.

Living in Stamford and being an Electrician I've seen, heard and dealt with all areas. Rule of thumb everywhere is the more money someone has the safer the area they can be in. It's a total shame!!

There are parts of Shippan that is nice but the homes are 1 mill.
Cove section was good but has become congested and full of rowdy kids and the crime rate has gone up.
Forget near downtown.
Courtland Avenue, Glenbrook Road, Hope Street some of the Springdale section is ok.
North Stamford is immaculate and they should just gate that all around and keep the weeds of life out of there.
