Yes it did make the list.

Drive through the town and you will understand why it made the list- its a gem of a town-

reasons not? None - its far superior then many other over hyped areas of the country.

The only possible negative about Somers that I know of, is that it is the home two State Correctional Facilities. It is not like these facilities loom over the town, but they are located there and there have been a couple of instances where they created problems for the town. Jay

That is the only negative I can think of as well. I think Northern is max. security while Osborn isn't.

Default I like Somers a lot but.......

Consider the location of Somers to the nearest major highway (I-91 or I-84).
My husband wasn't willing to commute down RT 83 to I-84 everyday to E. Hartford or RT 140 thru Enfield to I-91.

Ellington traffic is more congested on RT 83 than years past!
Enfield's traffic to I-91 is more so.

It's not the prison it's the highway access that
we decided not to move to Somers.
Our nephew is a guard at the prison he lives in Vernon.

What kind of problems?

It seems the Jails may be helping the taxes there.Ellingtons taxes were higher

As for traffic....try LI for a week.
(90 min to go 30 miles)

It doesnt seem too bad down Gulf to 84.

I was wondering the same thing...Maybe it had to do with a few escapees or something. Also, I agree with Clamboy in that traffic on LI can be horrendous, and you can't drive a mile without hitting about 10 traffic lights!
