Are there people commute from Wilton to NYC by Metro North? How realistic is it to do it on a regular basis? Thanks for any info.

Yes, many people make the trek from southern CT to Manhattan. There is a station in Wilton that has through trains which take between 80-90 minutes. Factor in time to drive to the station, waiting at the platform, and walk/subway/cab to the office once in midtown, and you're easily looking at 2 hours each way.

To cut your commute time, you might want to look at Greenwich, though it's pricier than Wilton. Other options would be Westchester or New Jersey.

I used to drive to the Darien station and make the straight shot into GC. Then walked to Broadway and 42nd. The total commute was about 1.5 - 1.75 hrs from door to door.

Wilton station has very limited stops. Can it be any better if I were to drive to South/East Norwalk? Train time is shorter and more options? My husband works in Stamford, so NJ may not be so great. We've looked at Westchester too and I can't stand the taxes.

Norwalk would be okay - you would have to drive to Norwalk however. It would be great if you can carpool with your husband to Stamford and take the train from there. Stamford is a major hub for the area so you'll find lots of options from there. Just a thought.

2 hours sounds crazy to me. Might as well get a second part-time job. Any commute over 1 hour is stupid and impractical IMO.

Same here. It's because the train takes so long. If one were to drive from the Darien area, it's under 40 miles.

davwve, just curious why would you drive to Darien. Isn't Norwalk a major stop and has more options? Also, how is the traffic from South Wilton to Norwalk in the morning rush hours?

I was able to get a parking pass at Darien and the schedule worked for me. I was at the train station before rush hour started so traffic was never an issue and really didn't take any longer for me to get to Darien. The drive from S. Wilton to Norwalk is easy since you don't need to use I95 or the Merritt. The Rt. 7 connector dumps you in SONO right down the street from the train station.

I saw it from another thread that Rt7 traffic is bad in the morning due to some construction. Is it still the case?
