Default Thinking of moving to Shelton, CT

I am currently living in Florida and may be possibly transferring with my job to Shelton, CT. I have NEVER been to CT, so I need some advice! What is a good area to live in? I enjoy the city life, what are the major cities in the area that I would be able to have a reasonable commute? I will be renting, will I be able to find anything in the $600-$800 range? I don't care about size, just the area. Please Help!!

Shelton CT Is on the border- between pricey Fairfield County and New Haven County.
Southwestern CT is not cheap. Rentals all over the country are going up

I suggest if you work in Shelton consider commuting from North Haven or Hamden where rents may be lower. A 1 bedroom apartment of high quality will set you back at least 1K a month, there are apartments of less upscale quality from 800+ dollars a month in good areas.

Also take into consideration heating costs-

Spano - I just responded to your other post about New Haven, so check out that post. I didn't realize that you're looking for something in the $600-800 range. I'm not sure if you'll be able to find much in New Haven, at least in one of the better neighborhoods. You might be able to find a 1BR closer to $800. Not sure about Hamden and North Haven. If it's the city life you're after, there are no "big cities" in CT. The closest thing you'll find near Shelton is New Haven, which is pretty good - plenty of restaurants and things to do, a lot of it because of Yale but that's okay. Another benefit of living near the shoreline is access to MetroNorth, the commuter train to New York City - it's about 1.5 hours by train from New Haven, and less if you live closer to Fairfield County.

i doubt that u will find a rent below $1000 and that would be a studio...i have lived in shelton and in florida as well....the rents don't compare...if u have kids..be sure to get them in either booth hill school area or mohegan....stay away from sunnyside elementary!!!! on a good note, the middle school is brand new and booth hill has been completely remodeled...if u don't have kids, consider renting in derby or ansonia...it will be much cheaper..gl...BigMama18
