well, I would look somewhere along the I-84 corridor. Unfortunatly the towns west of the CT river on this highway are fairly pricey, and only get more so as you get closer to NY. Depending on what size house you are looking for, under 300,00 can get you a small cape, with out without a garage depending.

You can look at New Milford or Watertown as more reasonably priced alternatives. Southbury and Brookfield as more pricey alternatives.

Check into New fairfield and Danbury. Price ranges for all budgets. New Milford is a great town, 15 min. from I-84. Again its big enough where you can find a house in a wide price range. 300K is a slight "push" nowadays however.

Prices may be more reasonable closer to the greater Southington area which is really a very nice geographic location to consider.

Anything on the I-84 corridor. However 300k is pushing it. Waterbury is the farthest I think you can go.

Danbury is a very diverse and safe city right on the NY border. There are so many different types of housing options. Im sure you would be able to find something decent for your budget.

About 1 hr. from newburgh bridge in Pa. just over the Delaware river bridge, you can get a mansion for $300.000, and you will be right next to Milford Pa.And you wont have to pay the outrages tax's in Conn. it's 47 miles to milford from newburgh bridge

The OP wanted to be between Newburgh and Southington while still remaining in Connecticut. I was going to suggest my old stomping grounds of Patterson, Pawling, Dover, and Beekman (Poughquag), but they're in New York.

I live in Waterbury - and I love it. Beautiful old neighborhoods, housing prices are low, and the people are terrific. You couldn't get us to move out of here. If you look at Waterbury, try the "Historic Overlook" neighborhood. Columbia Blvd is absolutely gorgeous and many of the surrounding streets have smaller houses (2000-3500 sq ft!) that are more affordable. You could buy a beautiful house for $300K. If you want more info on the neighborhood, go to the Historic Overlook Community Club website.
