My electric bill this month will be higher for the central air- but it was $127 last month which is not bad really. And on Yankee gas- that $70 a month is pretty good as well- I have two levels with vaulted ceilings here, lots of windows and skylights and an end unit- am I living too cheap? LOL
I bundled my LAN phone, wireless and DSL with A T ....... well you know.

skytrekker - I am not questioning how much you pay, but have noted that electric and gas rates have gone up a lot in recent years and will continue to do so. I recommended that adaib consider it to be more in case it goes up again. Jay

I know rates have gone up- but thats what I pay. And that includes a hot water heated by electricity and an electric dryer.
In any case lets cease this part of the conversation since it is off topic.

Thanks for all the info guys. I know a doc that used to work in the same clinic that I work in that has offices in Hartford. He is trying to help me find an office job, so I'm guessing I will be moving to the Hartford area. He mentioned West Hartford, Glastonbury, Simsbury, Avon, and Canton. He also said something about taxes being really high. I'm not sure if he's referring to sales tax, property tax, employment tax? Any ideas?

To the original poster
Welcome to CT! you will have no problem here finding a good paying
LPN job, I am a lpn myself, but due to the high cost of living
and high taxes me and my husband and children will be relocating
soon and i will be able to spend more time with my children.
Hartford area may be a better choice for you i live in the fairfield
county area and things can get pretty high around here.
If you need any agency referals pm me
Good Luck!!

I am possibly moving near Stratford...but need to know more
Is there a town or city close to it that is a good area...or is Stratford a good area - good for home, safety, work, and schools?

Stratford is ok- there are some very good areas- and areas that are 'iffy' but by no means real bad. Stratford has a lower then average crime rate, and good schools. The city is a mixture of blue collar and white collar. One of its largest employers has been Sikorsky.

He's probably referring to the property taxes.
There's also an income tax but it's not that high relative to neighboring states IIRC.
Sales tax is 6%.
Gasoline & gasoline taxes are higher too.
IMO heating with oil can be cheaper if available, esp. if it also includes hot water.
Berlin, Cromwell, Southington, Newington are also good Central CT towns within a fairly easy commuting distance to Hartford.

Mimi, we've just bought a house in Stratford. From what I understand, the 06614 area code is better than 06615 with the exception of Lordship, which is really nice. I was really happy to see lots of families walking around in town, joggers, just a nice, safe, small town feel. And from what I understand, Stratford Academy (an elementary magnet school open to all residents) is a good school. The crime rate is lower than the average in CT (and better where I'm moving from in Norwalk), home prices are reasonable, and it's not that bad of a commute (depending on where you're going).

Relocating from Atlanta to Hartford
What would the approx monthly heating bill come out for a 900sqft apt?
