Default Derby

Is there anything of revelant about Derby other than being smallest city in Connecticut? Also what region does Derby fall under? On Wikipedia it is listed under "the Valley" region. I have no clue where the valley is. Is Derby in the Southwest Region (Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford Area), South Central Region (New Haven, Middletown, Milford Area) or the Northwest Region(Waterbury, Danbury area)? Thank you to anyone who responds.

It is part of "The Valley" which refers to the Naugatuck River Valley (along with Ansonia, Shelton and Naugatuck to name a few). Derby is an old mill town that has seen better days. I would love to say something positive about it but I really can't think of anything. It isn't crime ridden or unsafe, just ugly. Oh, they are trying to revitalize the downtown, so hopefully that helps the town out when they are done.

GeorgeC is on a distinguished road
I was doing a search and this thread popped up.

Derby is indeed an old mill town which once had crumbling buildings along its Main Street. If you havent been in Derby for a while, things have changed. The buildings are down, and Derby is poised for a downtown revitalization. Derby is home to Griffin Hospital, on of the US's top 100 companys to work for. They are in the middle of completing a world class cancer center. Derby is also in the process of renovating a 100 year old Opera House, which was the first building from CT listed on the National Registrar. Derby also is home to Osborndale State Park and Witek Park, which contains 2 large reserviors used for fishing. A new state of the art middle school in now being constructed. A 3 mile Greenway was recently completed and has over 1000 visitors each weekend. Derby is uniquely situated at the confluence of the Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers, is a stone throw from RT 8. It has a train station, and is situated close to NHaven, Waterbury and Bridgeport. RT 34 passes right though town.

There are many large businesses including a Lowes, Starbucks, Home Depot, Dunkin Donuts, Wendys, Staples, Walmart, CVS, SHop Rite, Archie Moores, and Burger King as well as many smaller shops including Housatonic Lumber, Valley Bowl, Club Ballroom.

There are many fine restaurants including The Twisted Vine, Bless Your Sole, Fratellis, Frankies and Connies.

While it's in New Haven County, it's geographically part of the Bridgeport/Stamford/Norwalk urbanized area.

Derby is an old mill town that's lately been discovered by professionals seeking a lower cost of living with easy access to Fairfield County. Schools in Derby aren't great but there is plenty of shopping and plenty to do within a 15 minute drive. Downtown is being revitalized which should help clean up Derby's image.

They "Valley" is the Route 8 corridor between Bridgeport and Waterbury (from Shelton to Naugatuck).

I did a research project in Derby in 1989 and found it to be charming in an odd sort of way. Doesn't it have a very large Italian population?
