And what's your point? Show me any town of 60,000+ residents that has never had a murder. Even the affluent towns have them. Look at Greenwich.

I suppose you shouldn't drive cars either since a drunk driver might hit you? That happens everywhere.

I'll walk through Milford, any area in town, any time of the night and not feel the least bit threatened. I feel bad for you if you think otherwise and let your life be influenced by fear.

Look at the crime index. It's lower than it was 10 years ago and below the national average, even with the bad economy.

I live in a town of 52k (Milford has 53k, bTW), which has had just 1 in 15 years (and it was spousal). Milford has had 1 almost every year. We named just 2 examples, and Krispy Kreme was a massacre with multiple victims.

Where is your imaginery town of 60K?

2009: 56,424. Close enough.

Where do you live?

Actually 53k per googled 2010 census result. Either way, far cry from 60.

I live in a very safe, upper middle class burb north of Nashville. Our crime relo index a few years back was 24. 80 was the US suburban average for that year. Milford was around national avg a few years back, before the incidents we mentioned.

Well, it REALLY doesn't matter if it's 53 or 60k, not sure what point you're trying to make, but 53k was the 2000 census number.

What's the name of your town?

I visit Nashville a lot for work. It's a nice area. Would I want to live there? No. But I don't hold anything against it and people are very nice there. There's bad towns in Tennessee just like in Connecticut. I'd wager not all your state's suburbs are upper middle class.

Milford has not been at the national average for over 10 years.

My big question is, if you don't live in Milford year round anymore, how can you try to convince someone like me who lives here 365 days a year that it doesn't feel safe? Hilarious.

I still have 2 relatives in Milford; one lives within 1 mile of the unsolved murder from about 3 years ago. (i.e. the wrong side of town, not ner the pols)

I visit 2x/year, know some who run businesses here, and we do a small amount of business with Ct suppliers. I'm not sure how far the safety difference extends beyond towns abutting Milford, but its a sea change from not too many years ago.
