Hi,
We are thinking about renting a small house for a few days vacation in South Vermont or in New York state. Ideally it would be somewhere in a pretty place near the lake where we could do swimming and kayacking. We have a 3 yo son, so it has to be "safe and easy" .
We live in New Haven, but we are not really familiar with the area. It would be great if someone could recommend some places (lake names, town names). Like this we would be able to search for rental opportunities nearby.
Thanks a lot!

You might want to post this question on the New York and Vermont boards. You would probably get a better answer there. Jay

alot of ct ppl have vacation houses in vt and upstate ny. this should actually be a good area for you to get some chat. the drive from lower ct to these areas
to the adk's-3.5-5 hours depending on the spot
to vt(south)- 3 hours ballpark
to vt(north)-5 hours ballpark

there are a ton of great places depending on what you enjoy.
i would say if your looking for a great little community/enjoy sporting etc then these areas may be the worth a look:
NY
-lake george/saratoga/glen falls ny
-lake champlian ny
-old forge ny
-upper adk's ny (a million small lakes and communities)
VT
-west dover
-burlington
-rutland
-waterbury/morisville
-newport

if your into skiing/lake sports(kayak-boat-etc)/bike/run/golf/vaca feel/flee markets and more, these areas are great...
